This long-established textile company were moving to a brand new building which had no air change. Their machinery was generating heat which was accumulating in upper reaches of the space. Warmco were commissioned to create a mechanical ventilation system to extract the warm air gathering in the apex of the building. As part of this project we were also asked to fit a complementary heating system for these state of the art 14.000 sq.ft premises in Baildon, in November 2016.
To enhance the ventilation of the building during the summer, we installed a large wall Elta extraction fan (800mm x 800mm) into the wall, to extract the warm air from the apex of the building, through a galvanised circular steel duct running the full length of the centre of the building. Every six metres a grille was fitted to the underside of the duct work to extract the warm air from the factory, each grille was fitted with a damper so the air extraction was balanced. This ventilation system was set up to provide two air changes per hour. Additionally five Elta SCP400 wall plate extraction fans (400mm x 400mm), also pulled warm air out of the building. These fans were located just below eaves level and were fitted with a non-return air damper to stop warmed air escaping during the winter period.
At low level four compact 315mm wall plate fans (SCP315/4-1) were installed 2.5m/3m from the floor which, along with the two heaters were set up to draw cool air into the building in summer to balance out the air extraction above. These wall fans are operated using speed controllers. The TRA50 Winterwarm / Warmco heaters that we had already fitted, were adapted by fitting a fan box (on the back) to draw 100% cooler fresh air into the building in the summer months, to assist with ventilation. This supply air could be altered through the damper fitted on the fan box. e.g. 100% fresh air in summer, or 75% recirculation and 25% fresh air etc, in winter.
